Shane McConkey Memorial Skydive Squaw Valley Chuck Berry & Miles Daisher
Shane McConkey Memorial
I traveled to Squaw Valley, California in April to attend the Memorial Service of our good friend Shane. In the style that Shane lived his life, Miles Daisher & I arrived by parachute on a beautiful, blue, crisp, spring afternoon. To be in the sky above Squaw with Miles & the Sprit of Shane was special.
The Red Bull Air Force had congregated at Charles Bryan's house, situated directly below one of the main gondola cables. From above, big letters can be seen, freshly painted....SHANE....pointing to the heavens, beaming us in.
Skydiving onto a mountain covered with cables, towers & trees at 6000 feet altitude is not easy so I'm happy to follow Miles. Under canopy the beautiful vista of Squaw lay below, Miles flew his canopy in for a precision landing beside Charles house. My turn, I keep a good eye on the gondola cable & can see the boys on the roof as I speed my canopy up to gain energy, flying fast toward the roof, SHANE getting bigger. Here I come! With a big flare to halt my speed I land on the N of SHANE. I'm sure he'd be pleased.
Shane, what a Man, what a Friend, what an Inspiration. That Inspiration & Spirit Lives On.
